BREAKING NEWS... It’s been a few weeks since Tim Brando has announced (again) that the Notre Dame Fighting Irish will be joining the ACC in football. Yes, that’s still news.
For whatever reason, the status of Notre Dame’s conference affiliation (or lack there of) is more important to those outside of the Notre Dame bubble than in it. Don’t get me wrong, plenty of Irish fans and alumni are proud of Notre Dame’s independence in football and are very vocal with their thoughts, but that only really seems to come out when they are trying to defend the status against mouthpieces like Brando.
Now, this isn’t a piece bashing Tim Brando (again) and it isn’t another piece giving the million reasons why Notre Dame should remain independent. No, it’s something a little different.

With the 4th of July on its way tomorrow (and screwing everyone up by falling on a Tuesday) I thought we should have a day to celebrate Notre Dame’s Independence. I came up with 3 possible dates, but perhaps you have another — please throw it our way. This is a very important vote, and I will make this an official holiday on OFD in the future.
- November 23, 1887. The first Notre Dame football game.
- December 6, 1888. Notre Dame football’s first win (Harvard Prep).
- November 14, 1889. Notre Dame football’s first win over a real live college team, the Northwestern Wildcats.

Other (please list in comments below)
If the “other” gets a decent number of votes with suggestions like one of the days we told the Big Ten to go screw themselves, or the day we signed the NBC contract, or whatever, I’ll hold a special election.
This is getting serious people. Real serious.
Let’s figure this out! Until then, enjoy your pipes and don’t forget to vote!
