The Notre Dame Fighting Irish continue their late July success with the commitment of 4-star linebacker Jack Lamb. The blue-chip defender committed to Notre Dame tonight, choosing the Irish over the UCLA Bruins. Lamb had offers from all over the country including the Oregon Ducks, Penn State Nittany Lions, and the Washington Huskies.

Lamb is the No. 3 linebacker in the state of California, and the 154th-ranked player overall, according to 247 Sports. He is the 15th commitment for the Irish in the 2018 class, and the third pure linebacker in this class (along with Matt Bauer and Ovie Oghoufo). His commitment strengthens Notre Dame's 2018 class as a top-10 class right now, and could be the last domino for this position.
Lamb is lanky and instinctive. He was one of the real standouts at Nike's The Opening earlier this month, and he will bring a level of athleticism and toughness that is needed in the box.

Notre Dame has been recruiting linebackers pretty hard in this class after passing on a couple late in the last cycle. The new 4-2-5 scheme that Mike Elko brings to South Bend calls for only two linebackers. With Lamb's commitment, the Irish look to have eight in 2018 and seven — so far — for 2019.
With Lamb's commitment, it's likely that Notre Dame will back off from recruiting Cam McGrone, as McGrone appears to be set to commit to the Michigan Wolverines.
The class is filling up, but don't let the total numbers fool you. We should all keep Notre Dame's normal off-season attrition in mind when we look at the scholarship numbers for the next season. I think it's safe to say that the Irish can and will take about six more commitments, with massive need at the cornerback position.
