We are definitely in full swing for the college football award watch list season. Another player for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish will be “watched” after it was released that Equanimeous St. Brown is on the watch list for the Fred Biletnikoff Award.
Last season, the sophomore St. Brown really showed up and proved himself to be a “number one” receiver with 58 receptions for 961 yards and 9 touchdowns. Those stats are oddly similar to that of Golden Tate during his sophomore season. Tate caught 58 receptions for 1080 yards and 10 touchdowns that year.
In Tate’s junior year, he caught 93 passes for 1496 yards and 15 touchdowns on his way to winning the Biletnikoff Award, and was the first Notre Dame player to ever do so.
If St. Brown wants to win the award this year, he will need similar stats. He doesn’t have a seasoned Jimmy Clausen throwing to him or a guy like Michael Floyd on the other side, so if he comes close to achieving those numbers, he will seriously deserve to win the award.
Maybe to do something great, you need a great name. Golden Tate... Equanimeous St. Brown. It might just work, and the band of the Michigan State Spartans better watch out.
