Just a short while ago, we learned that Navy Midshipmen safety, Alohi Gilman was going to visit the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and I suppose we probably already saw this coming.
Alohi Gilman is transferring to Notre Dame, and will be eligible in 2018 (but it appears Notre Dame is appealing to the NCAA for a waiver of some type). He will have 3 years of eligibility remaining.
Officially Committed to Notre Dame. Thank you to ND for giving me this opportunity. #GoIrish ☘️ pic.twitter.com/YWQ3vTHZI9

Gilman had a really nice first year with the Naval Academy, and was second on the team with 76 tackles last year. He also was an honorable mention for All-AAC defense. While the American Athletic Conference isn’t the ACC, being a standout during the first year of play is quite outstanding.
Brian Kelly released this statement:
“First of all, Alohi is a great fit here in terms of his character and also what he wants to achieve academically. Clearly, that’s primary in our recruiting. Secondly, in terms of his football fit, we got a good look of him against us last season. He plays the style of safety we want in this program. Alohi’s a run-and-hit safety that fits perfectly in the Mike Elko defense.”
Here is how safety/rover eligibility chart looks for 2018 without Gilman on it.
