Notre Dame Football: Irish Going After Navy Safety Transfer, Alohi Gilman

It’s transfer season. Notre Dame has gone hunting.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are going all out to fill out their 85 scholarship limit for 2017. They are being really aggressive this offseason, and now the Irish have their sights on Navy Midshipmen defensive back, Alohi Gilman.

Gilman was part of the 2015 recruiting for the Naval Academy. He, like all freshman at the service academies, “redshirted.” He played in 2016, and was second on the team with 76 tackles.

Gilman is checking out Notre Dame right now, and I think it’s probably a safe bet to say that he would make a good fit with the school itself. As far as his fit with the team goes, he may very well have that as well.

Gilman would have to sit out one year, if he transfers to a FBS school. Transfers from service academies aren’t widely reported, but some may wonder how they are able to with their commitment to the United States military. Their service commitment does not begin until the start of their junior year.
