Mike McGlinchey is ranked #47 by Sports Illustrated. McGlinchey served as the anchor of the leader of the offensive line and the team as a captain. McGlinchey returns for his last year with a lot to prove after the horrendous 4-8 season, and will serve as a captain once again.
When McGlinchey said midway through last season that he intended to return to Notre Dame as a senior instead of leaving school early for the NFL draft, it seemed too good to be true for the Fighting Irish. But McGlinchey followed through on that declaration, and the result should be a boon both for him and Notre Dame. McGlinchey could settle the debate over college football’s best offensive tackle in his favor, and his bruising work up front will pave the way for an improved running game following a season in which the Irish registered an average of only 4.47 yards per rush, good for 62nd nationally.
If Notre Dame is going to make a big turnaround this year, they need McGlinchey to play more consistently throughout the season. Last year he was dubbed “McFlinchey” after more than a few false start calls.
McGlinchey is tabbed to go #7 overall in the NFL Draft next year via a mock draft from Walter Football. It would mean that McGlinchey would be the first offensive linemen selected. So... is this #47 ranking too low for Big Mike?
