The next player up for the Notre Dame Fighting irish and our player profile series is linebacker Jonathan Jones.
Jones was a freshman last year and redshirted. There was no real reason to start thinking about his role this year, but maybe with the change in defense with the arrival of Mike Elko- maybe there is more to see here. Notre Dame will certainly use Nyles Morgan, Greer Martini, and Te’von Coney - while maybe not in a rotation, we should see all three in action. For Jones, his time should arrive next year, with this year setting himself up on special teams and in a backup role.
3 Things to Know About Jonathan Jones
- Jones was the #3 ranked player by the Orlando Sentinel’s Super 60.
- His recruiting battle came down to Notre Dame and the Michigan Wolverines. We won (like 37-0 won).
- Plays with more power than your mythical friends.

Rather than provide highlights of the player- here’s some highlight of a helper.
I, The Subway Domer, Emperor And Supreme Warlord, Defender of the Faith, And Keeper of Keys Dub Thee:
“JJ DINOMITE Jones”. Yes, this is a play on “JJ” and the fact that Jones is as strong as a dinosaur.
2017 Forecast
Again, there is a bit of a logjam at linebacker right now, and with the scheme moving towards only using 2 true linebackers... Jones may have to wait another year.
HOWEVER... He should see a lot of special teams play, and is my pick to be one of our special teams heroes- which makes him MY hero. He will also be learning the craft as he should be looked at as a prime player in 2018.
