Bagpipe Monday: Notre Dame Football Recruiting COMMIT Watch

The Irish Invasion is over. Is it important? Is it Pinstripe Bowl important? These are the tough questions that have no real answers.

Welcome to another Bagpipe Monday here at One Foot Down. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish just finished up their Irish Invasion weekend, and here are 3 things that I know:

  1. Jayson Oweh is now the hottest name on Notre Dame’s board according to just about every analyst in attendance.
  2. There are legitimately 4 players on COMMIT WATCH right now in CB Donald Johnson, S Paul Moala, LB Cameron McGrone, and ROVER Shayne Simon.
  3. As of right now... Notre Dame has no new commitments.

Things were sounding pretty good up until number 3.

Honestly, I’m not sure if I should be disappointed that no one committed on the spot. There was some hype that Notre Dame could close on a couple of commits, but no one wanted to say, “YEAH THAT DUDE COMMITIN’ Y’ALL.”

Keep in mind, that this is only Monday morning, and things can and have changed in a hurry. Notre Dame is working on a really nice class right now, and if the Irish landed 3 out of the 4 mentioned, they would be in the running for a top 5 finish.

Who will commit first?

Now, all of that is great (or could be great) but like I said in the beginning... Jayson Oweh might be the biggest “get” that was at the camp. His workouts were amazing according to onlookers, and the combined search efforts of his parents and himself for a school with strong academics and athletics (with the former being of greater importance) really has Irish fans drooling.

This is a kid that we want, can get, and don’t really have right now.

Notre Dame is battling the Ohio State Buckeyes, Penn State Nittany Lions, and the Harvard Crimson (really, but maybe not really) for his services. Star rating be damned (as well as the fact he has only played in 8 games in his career) this is turning into a MUST GET for Notre Dame.

Of course, the Irish are up against a couple of top notch recruiters in Franklin and Urban- but the most hardcore recruiters, are the fans of the schools that feel that they have more to offer. More like, LOOK AT THAT PINSTRIPE BOWL RING DOG YOU GOT TO HAVE IT type of effort.

Let’s share:

Jack dad is so on point here. YOU GOTTA GET THAT PINSTRIPE BOWL RING BROS! (Also... please don’t tweet at recruits. Thank-you).

Your weekly pipes are all about competition:

In the Las Vegas Pipe Band, Pipers and Drummers are often asked to perform their solo competition music in front of the entire band to relieve nerves. This ceremony is called...THE CIRCLE OF DEATH! Special thanks to Andrew Douglas from The Piper's Dojo for his review of Wil's performance!
