Matt Writes for OFD

Hello, OFD!

I’m Matt Greene (Matty G, as I’ve come to be known), and I recently started as a writer. I’m very glad to be here!

I’m pretty new to the blogging game, but I am pumped to begin. I grew up a huge ND fan and then recently became an alum (Class of ‘16). I can talk anyone’s ear off about Notre Dame Fighting Irish athletics, so why not write down those thoughts?

I am a Detroit area native, born and raised. Unfortunately, I grew up 20 minutes from Ann Arbor. I put up with those fans my whole life, so needless to say, that 37-0 game in 2014 (yes, that is the correct score of the game) became three and a half hours of pure heaven.

My dream was to go to Notre Dame and then play trumpet in the ND Band. I began my journey of the second dream before the first. I initially got denied from ND, so I went to HCC and joined the band. 2012 was my freshman year, and a great ride. 12-0 and a trip to Miami to play at the National Championship. It was so surreal. Up until the game, the trip was phenomenal.

After 1 year, I decided ND was the place I needed to be. I applied again and got accepted, fulfilling my lifelong dream. I loved every minute of my time on campus.

I love Notre Dame, and the beauty of campus mixed with all of the tradition has always drawn me to ND sports. Plus, with being in the band and so close to the action and the players for football and basketball games, I feel a stronger connection to the sports teams. Hopefully that connection will help me with writing about the teams and topics here.

So, I’m excited to be here in the One Foot Down Community, and I’m pumped to get started.

Oh, and one more thing you should know about me: I love puns. I will incorporate many puns, so be ready for those.

Thanks, everybody!
