The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are on a recruiting roll right now. Just hours after the Irish received the commitment from 4- star defensive back, Kalon Gervin, they got more good news when Derrik Allen, another 4- star defensive back, committed to Notre Dame.

According to the 247 Sports Composite rankings, Allen is a 4-star defensive back and is ranked as the 52nd best player in the country- regardless of position.

The 6’1” 205 pound prospect from Marietta, Georgia has offers from just about every program in the country including: the Goergia Bulldogs, Ohio State Buckeyes, Clemson Tigers, Alabama Crimson Tide, and many more.

One of the intriguing things about Allen is that he is adamant that he will play defensive back at the next level. Some teams, including Clemson, had expressed interest in moving Allen to linebacker. Allen want nothing to do with that and expressed his opinion in a tweet last month:

“I am a DB.. DEFENSIVE BACK, which means I play corner , safety, and nickel..all the other talk about me playing another position ..KILL IT”

According to Tom Loy at Irish 247, the relationship that Allen made with Mike Elko and Todd Lyght tipped the scale. This is a MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR get for the Irish.

After a signing day that saw the Irish close by adding 6 quality commitments in the last week, and a 2018 class that just landed 2 of the best defensive backs in the country- you can say that Notre Dame football recruiting is doing pretty well right now. The 2017 class finished #11 in the country according to 247 Sports, and as of right now, the Irish are ranked #2 for the 2018 class.

That #2 ranking could end up being #1 by the end of the week. Another 4 star prospect is announcing on Friday, and he will most likely commit to Notre Dame. The 2018 class is filling up, and we will have more on that adventure very soon on One Foot Down.
