Kalon Gervin became the seventh - and perhaps most important - commitment to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish’s class of 2018 on Monday.
Gervin, a 5-foot-11, 170 pound athlete from Cass Tech (Detroit, Mich.) plays cornerback, a position which Notre Dame failed to pick up this past recruiting cycle. He held offers from the Florida Gators, LSU Tigers, Michigan Wolverines, Oregon Ducks, Michigan State Spartans and Oklahoma Sooners, among several others.

On film, Gervin looks to be solid in every facet of his game. He plays both the run and pass well and has the ability to adjust from coverage to stopping the run while maintaining good leverage.
Gervin is a good athlete who has the foundation to develop and become more physical. He’s got good instincts on when to look for the ball without losing pace with the receiver.
Gervin is the fifth defensive player to commit to the Irish in the class of 2018 and its first defensive back. He’s a great pickup for Notre Dame and Mike Elko’s future defensive squad.
