National Signing Day 2017: 3-Star DT Kurt Hinish To Notre Dame

Notre Dame is getting stronger thanks to a return to its roots in western Pennsylvania. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish just signed 3 star defensive tackle Kurt Hinish from Central Catholic in Pittsburgh. Hinish chose the Irish over programs like the Penn State Nittany Lions, Pittsburgh Panthers, Tennessee Volunteers, Virginia Tech Hokies, and many others.

Hinish was a very productive player for Central Catholic, and if he was just another inch or two taller, he would be rated a lot higher by the “experts.” If you’re looking for a fierce competitor that always gives everything he has on the field, then Hinish is your guy.

But... if you’re looking for a strong, quick footed defensive tackle that uses both power and leverage well- YOU GOT THAT TOO! For a big guy, he’s really quick off the line and anticipates the snap very well.

The great need along the Notre Dame defensive line makes this signing a particularly valuable one. While Darnell Ewell is the better of the two and will probably see more time on the field early in their careers, Hinish brings a motor that is begging to push the limits of the depth chart.

Guys like Brandon Tiassum, Micah Dew-Treadway, and Elijah Taylor will become better players because Hinish will be pushing them in practice. Don’t get it twisted though... I don’t believe that Hinish will only serve as a “role player” in his upcoming time at Notre Dame. I think he has the tools to develop into a very good and productive defensive lineman in Mike Elko’s system.

This is a really good pickup for the Irish, and one that should prove productive in practice this year, and on the field for a few years to come. I loved guys like Kyle Budinsack, Derek Landri, and Trevor Laws and I think that’s the type of player Hinish can become.
