The Notre Dame Fighting Irish went through a bit of a dry spell when it comes to cornerback recruiting (also a bit of an understatement). They had some slip through their fingers, and by the time Joe Wilkins Junior committed, they also had some decommitments.
While listed as an ATHLETE, Joe Wilkins will play corner for the Irish, and the Florida native made it official this morning when he signed his letter of intent to play for Notre Dame in 2018.
Welcome to the family, @joewilkinsjrrr!

The DB from Florida has the ability to change the game in one play, we're glad he's on our team.

At 6’2” and 180 pounds, Wilkins could very well move into a safety slot, but his unique size and speed for a corner is what might make him really dangerous and be one of those “under the radar” type of guys.
Wilkins chose the Irish over schools like the N.C. State Wolfpack, Kentucky Wildcats, Maryland Terrapins, and Michigan State Spartans.
Despite the great need at cornerback, look for Wilkins to redshirt his freshman year while developing in Mike Elko’s system with cornerbacks coach, Todd Lyght.
