Early Signing Period: 3 Star Safety Paul Moala Signs With Notre Dame

Notre Dame locked up a local stud from Penn High School.

Paul Moala The Pennant

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish signed a quick and athletic defensive back from their own backyard. Paul Moala, a safety from Penn High School in Mishawaka, signed with the Irish this morning after a 6th month courtship from the Irish.

The Irish had Moala on their radar for a long time, but they didn’t offer him a scholarship until the Irish Invasion recruiting event at Notre Dame this summer. While many thought Moala would jump all over the offer once it was handed to him, he took his time and waited until an official visit in October before finally committing to the Irish.

Safety was a big need for Notre Dame (although not nearly as much as cornerback). Although there will be a lot of numbers at the position come this spring, there still may be a spot for Paul to slide in and get some work. With that said, look for a redshirt in 2018, and special teams duty in 2019.

Moala chose the Irish over programs like the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Iowa Hawkeyes, and Vanderbilt Commodores.
