The Notre Dame Fighting Irish just got one of their biggest targets, and one of the best recruits in the country. 4 Star Cornerback Houston Griffith committed to Notre Dame tonight, and effectively ended one of the more public and aggressive recruitments of this class for the Irish.

Griffith is a Chicago native, but has played football for IMG Academy in Bradenton Florida for the past few years. While the Irish were once considered a big leader to get Griffith, it ended up being a wild roller coaster ride.
Houston chose the Irish over scholarship offers from just about everyone in the country including the Florida State Seminoles, Ohio State Buckeyes, Wisconsin Badgers, Florida Gators, Michigan Wolverines, and many others.
While the Irish were a perceived favorite for the midwest product that was transplanted in Florida, things started to look bleak this summer and Ohio State started to emerge. There was even talk of the Nebraska Cornhuskers impressing Griffith. He then committed to the Seminoles in September, but after a really rough year for FSU and with Jimbo Fisher's departure to the Texas A&M Aggies, he decommitted from Florida State and Notre Dame turned up the heat.
I'll get into what this commitment means for the Irish in just a bit, but Griffith represents the highest rated recruit for the Irish in their 2018 class, and the second defensive back ranked in top 100 in the nation.
