The Notre Dame Fighting Irish and their fans came into tonight’s game against the Miami-Florida Hurricanes with a lot of confidence and a lot to play for. Of course, all of that went into a dumpster and was set ablaze in the first quarter when Miami jumped out to 14-0 lead.
It was the preamble to a 41-8 beatdown for the Irish.
The Canes poured all the gasoline they could find (some of which could have been from Brian Kelly) and with a benched Brandon Wimbush, the Irish and Ian Book threw a pick 6 to the Miami defense to go into the half down 27-0.
Four total turnovers for the Irish that included 3 interceptions was just too much for the Irish. Notre Dame got lost in the moment and never recovered. It was a complete meltdown.
Miami deserves a ton of credit as they just flat-out kicked the crap out of Notre Dame in all phases of the game.
The Irish finished with only 261 yards of offense. Miami “only” had 374 yards, but it felt more like 700.
I’m sure we will have much more on this in One Foot Down in the coming days, but this is going to take a few moments to recover. The Irish are 8-2... yay?
