Early money is on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish to make this Saturday’s game against the North Carolina Tar Heels into a two-touchdown-plus affair.

Oddsmakers set the betting line at 14.5 points before influx of bets pushed Notre Dame to 15.5 point favorites. They are 16 point favorites at Bovada.lv, according to SB Nation’s Odds page.

The over/under is 64 points. The OddShark consensus is that Notre Dame will win, cover the spread, but the total of the two team’s points will be under 64 points.

Here’s some more points to consider, if you’re going to lay money on either team this week. These are courtesy of OddsShark:

  • The Irish are 21-2 against the spread in their last 23 road games (17-6 straight up) in October.
  • The Tar Heels are 2-4-1 against the spread in its last seven games (1-6 straight up). However, they are 8-2 against the spread (9-1 straight up) in their last 10 October games.
  • The home team has won each of the last three games in this series, and the total has gone over each time.
  • The total has gone over in 6 of Notre Dame’s last 7 games, yet it’s gone under in 10 of North Carolina’s last 14 games.
  • Three of North Carolina’s five games this year have gone over, while four of Notre Dame’s five games have done the same.

Over/under: 80.5 points

Perhaps I should just rename this feature, “Which Big 12 game are you going to watch this weekend?”

Last week, I suggested you watch two games — Oklahoma State & Texas Tech and USF at East Carolina. One of those delivered in a big way, as the Bulls and Pirates combined for 92 points. As I predicted, it wasn’t much of a game, as Charlie Strong’s team won by 30 points and covered the 23 point spread. The State-Tech game didn’t hit the over of 81 points, but it was a better game, with the Cowboys prevailing, 41-34.

Kansas (1-3) has put up at least 27 points in each of its games this year, while Texas Tech (3-1) has put up at least 34 points in every game except one (24 points in a loss to the Houston Cougars). They’re still playing “defense optional” football in Lubbock, so this seems your best bet for early Saturday fireworks.
