The Notre Dame Fighting Irish earned a big win over the N.C. State Wolfpack today, 35-14. It was a game that had Irish fans sitting on the edge of their seats early, and some might have been throwing things at the television.
The Wolfpack started things off with a touchdown on a Tyler Newsome blocked punt, which was definitely one of those “here we go” type of moments. The Irish answered quickly with a 2 play drive that ended with a 25 yard Brandon Wimbush touchdown pass to Durham Smythe.
N.C. State answered right back with a 7 play, 71 yard drive to take a 14-7 lead...
AND THAT WAS ALL SHE WROTE (for the Wolfpack offense).
The Irish scored two more times to make it 21-14 before halftime, courtesy of a Brandon Wimbush rush, and a Kevin Stepherson reception.
It’s not like Heisman hopeful, Josh Adams was quiet. Adams gained 100 yards before halftime, and then doubled that up in the second half to end the game with 202 yards that included a 77 yard touchdown run.
The Notre Dame defense might just be the biggest star of the game. They only allowed a touchdown on their watch after that punt block, and the secondary was absolutely incredible. I don’t have the exact count of passes deflected but it was probably around 9 or so. Julian Love really set it off with a 69 yard interception for a touchdown.
The Irish are now 7-1 and FIRMLY in the playoff hunt.
We will have MUCH much more on this win and the future on One Foot Down.
