Notre Dame Football: Opponent Watch - Week 7 Betting Lines & Must See Games

The Irish are off, but that doesn’t mean you’re going to give up watching college football.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are idle this weekend, but there are plenty of intriguing matchups among their opponents on Saturday.

Here’s your watch grid, following Jason Kirk’s format. All times are Eastern.

Saturday, Oct. 14 college football schedule

Early shift

Noon

Watch this: N.C. State Wolfpack at Pittsburgh Panthers, Raycom Sports/Watch ESPN. The Irish and the 20th-ranked Wolfpack (5-1, 3-0 ACC) play each other in 18 days at Notre Dame Stadium. Get an early look at a team that has already knocked off the Florida State Seminoles and Louisville Cardinals, assuming, of course, you didn’t already watch either of those two big games.

It’s football: Temple Owls vs. Connecticut Huskies, ESPN News.

12:20 p.m.

It’s football: Boston College Eagles at Louisville Cardinals, ACC Network. The Eagles (2-4) are 22-point underdogs on the road, but are 3-2-1 this year against the spread.

Middle shift

3:30 p.m.

Watch this: Miami-Florida Hurricanes vs. Georgia Tech Yellowjackets, ABC. The ‘Canes are a perfect 3-0 against the spread this year. But coming off an emotional rivalry game and playing an option offense, should you just take the 9.5 points and root for the road underdog?

It’s football: Miami-Ohio Redhawks at Kent State Golden Flashes, Watch ESPN; North Carolina Tar Heels vs. Virginia Cavaliers, Watch ESPN

3:45 p.m.

Maybe this: Navy Midshipmen at Memphis Tigers, ESPNU. The Middies sport an unblemished record and enter the Associated Press poll at No. 25. The Tigers are not an easy out, however. They’re 4-1 and 3.5 point favorites at home.

Late shift

7:30 p.m.

Maybe this: Georgia Bulldogs vs. Missouri Tigers, SEC Network. The Bulldogs and Irish fates are now intertwined, as the Irish are the Bulldog’s best win this year. The Irish need Georgia to keep rolling to make their one loss continue to look justifiable.

8 p.m.

Watch this: USC Trojans vs. Utah Utes, ABC. What better way to spend Saturday as an Irish fan than with a little advance scouting? See what problems Sam Darnold, Ronald Jones III and Cameron Smith (their Cam Smith, not ours) pose for the Utes, then try and imagine how the Irish would fare differently.

It’s football: Michigan State Spartans at Minnesota Golden Gophers, Big Ten Network

11 p.m.

It’s football: Stanford Cardinal vs. Oregon Ducks, Fox Sports 1

NATIONAL TITLE ODDS

The Irish improve to 50-to-1 odds to win the national championship at the Bovada Las Vegas sportsbook following their punishing of the North Carolina Tar Heels, 33-10.

POINTS!

Over/under: 79 points (both games)

Texas Tech Red Raiders at West Virginia Mountaineers (-3.5)
Noon Saturday, ESPNU

UCLA Bruins at Arizona Wildcats (-1.5)
9 p.m. Saturday, Pac 12 Network

For the third straight week, I’m suggesting you watch a Texas Tech game. The game against Oklahoma State two weeks ago was fun! (But it didn’t hit the over.) The one against Kansas last week was boring! (But it hit the over.)

If you wanted to see points without restraint, then the Western Michigan Broncos - Buffalo Bulls game delivered in spades. The Broncos prevailed 71-68 — no, not a typo — the most points ever scored in a FBS game.
