Notre Dame Moves Up in the AP Top 25

1 spot more

NCAA Football: Miami (Ohio) at Notre Dame Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

Back to Back Weeks

After the Notre Dame Fighting Irish put a shellacking onto the Miami-Ohio Redhawks yesterday, the Irish find themselves still in the Top 25. This is the first time this season that the Irish have been in the Top 25 for two, consecutive weeks. This week, Notre Dame checks in at Number 21 in the country, 1 spot ahead of last week’s ranking.

Here is the AP Top 25 in full:

A lot going on here with this poll

There are a decent number of 1-loss teams ahead of Notre Dame. Some ahead of ND are undefeated teams not in Power 5 conferences. There is A LOT of football to be played. With Notre Dame’s recent success, there is still time to be able to continue that success and jump higher in the rankings. Also, we have to look out for the College Football Playoff Rankings that begin soon.

Irish fans need to keep in mind of a few teams in the Top 25:

The Georgia Bulldogs are Number 5. If we’re looking at strength of schedule, a 1-point loss to the Number 5 team is pretty strong.

The USC Trojans, a future opponent, dropped to Number 14. If we win this coming Saturday, we might be looking at a Top 20 match up when we play USC in 2 weeks.

The Miami-Florida Hurricanes, another future opponent, are Number 13.

The N.C. State Wolfpack, yet another future opponent, are now in the Top 25 at Number 24.

If these teams stay on course to be ranked, we are looking at some big match ups in the second half of the season.

Keep on rolling, Irish. Taking care of our business helps with a lot of the rankings stuff.
