Notre Dame Basketball: Staff Picks - Louisville

Here is how the staff here at OFD sees Notre Dame’s matchup with Louisville shaking out.

NCAA Basketball: Notre Dame at Pittsburgh Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Much like what we did for football season, we will be rolling out a staff picks feature for basketball. The Irish take on the No.9 Louisville Cardinals at Purcell Pavilion on Wednesday night. It should be a good one. Without any further ado, here are our picks.

Pat Rick, Staff Writer (0-0)

Notre Dame 80 - Louisville 76

“VJ Beachem wakes up from his slumber, Bonzie is too strong for Louisville's big men to stop, Farrell takes care of the ball against the Pitino Press, and Pflueger/Gibbs give Louisville's Quentin Snider and Donovan Mitchell everything they can handle on the perimeter defensively. I also expect at least one dunk from Martinas Geben.”

Brad Wechter, Editor (0-0)

Louisville 76 - Notre Dame 68

“Irish go down big early, Beachem continues to struggle, and the turnover bug that bit Notre Dame in the Pitt game shows up again. Farrell, Vasturia and Colson lead a second-half comeback that falls just short.”

Jeff Czerniakowski, Staff Writer (0-0)

Notre Dame 74 - Louisville 70

“Home court advantage plays a factor and VJ Beachem gets back to being himself. A late shot from Vasturia clinches it for the Irish.”

Bobby Norell, Editor (0-0)

Notre Dame 80 - Louisville 72

“The Cardinals have yet to give up more than 70 points this season, but they have only played one true road game and that was at Grand Canyon. Their wins against Purdue, Kentucky and Indiana were either home or at a neutral site. The students won’t be back yet, so it won’t be as rowdy as it could be. Nevertheless, Notre Dame usually gives top ten teams fits at Purcell Pavilion. I see this one going back and fourth like most Notre Dame - Louisville games do, but Notre Dame pulls away late in the second half.”

Joshua Vowles, Site Manager (0-0)

Notre Dame 83 - Louisville 81

“Pitino can go to hell.”
