The Notre Dame Fighting Irish coaching staff has been very busy on the road lately. They’ve been dropping by talented recruit’s homes and high schools in a strong effort to round out their 2017 recruiting class that ranks 12th on 247 Sports currently.
Let’s have a look at who will be visiting South Bend this month.
Chris Miller - WR/CB
Chris Miller has been on Kelly’s radar for some time. He’s currently committed to Colorado but will be in South Bend this weekend. It’s uncertain which side of the ball Miller would play for the Irish but he’s a great athlete and they’re hoping for his commitment. There was talk that Colorado would go as far as pull his scholarship if he took visits so it’s a great sign that he is visiting Notre Dame.
Jordan Genmark-Heath - Safety
Other than Oliver Martin, this kid is my biggest want left on the board for the Irish. At San Diego’s Cathedral Catholic, the Sweden-born stud made plays all over the field including at safety, linebacker, punt/kick returner, running back and receiver. He’ll be on campus this weekend. He’s committed to Cal but with uncertainty with the coaching staff there, Notre Dame may be an option for his services. Genmark-Heath has offers from Harvard, Yale and Columbia so admission shouldn’t be a problem.
Evan Fields - Safety
Notre Dame is very high on Fields and quality depth at safety is a must. It’s said to be a three-way battle right now with ND, Arizona State and UCLA where he visited this past weekend. The talented safety was offered a scholarship by Cal on Wednesday. Fields will be visiting the last weekend of January which will be his final visit. Things are trending up for the Irish.
Tre Norwood - CB
Days after Notre Dame offered Norwood and he subsequently decommitted from Louisville, he was also offered by Oklahoma and Tennessee. He has a good relationship with Todd Lyght who has been high on the 5’8 corner for some time. New Defensive Coordinator Mike Elko decided to give Norwood a second visit on Monday to show him how interested they really are. The consensues is that he is a big Irish lean. We may find out this weekend when he visits.
Jalen Harris - DE
Notre Dame was late on Harris but they are giving him plenty of attention. As soon as the dead period ended, Brian Kelly kicked things off with an in-home visit by area recruiter Brian Polian. Lovie Smith got his shot with the Defensive End at Illinois last weekend. He will visit Washington the weekend of Jan. 21-22 then head to South Bend on Jan. 27 for his final official visit. The Irish have a huge need for defensive end so expect them to roll out the red carpet. Harris is an Arizona commit and both his parents played sports and graduated from there. His father was a linebacker in the NFL.
Mac Hippenhammer - WR
It’s said that Mac Hippenhammer has always regarded Notre Dame as his dream school. He attended Irish Invasion where he clocked in the highest 40 time but walked away without an offer. He’s now committed to Penn State but Notre Dame recently offered him. He visited ND unofficially on Monday with his mother and enjoyed his time. He still has a visit lined up with Penn State but says he may return to South Bend for an official visit before Signing Day. I expect him to end up Irish and so do many analysts as "crystal-ball" predictions have been rolling in for him to ND
Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa - SDE/DT
This hulking defensive end who may play some 3 technique defensive tackle comes from a family who is very high on academics. He may be a tough pull from Hawaii but he wouldn’t be the first islander at Notre Dame. He’s considered a USC lean but the fact he’s visiting for the final weekend of January tells us there’s a chance he’ll end up Irish at a position of need.
Jafar Armstrong - WR
Jafar Armstrong has been a hot commodity lately with offers from Baylor and Ole Miss. The talented WR is currently committed to Missouri but has expressed interest in Notre Dame and is trying to plan a visit. Tom Loy, Notre Dame’s recruiting analyst put in a "crystal ball" prediction for him to end up Irish.
Kofi Wardlow- DE
Kofi Warlow is the most recent recruit being offered by Notre Dame in this month of a thousand new offers. Wardlow got his offer and set his visit immediately. He’s committed to Maryland just a month ago, but obviously the new Notre Dame offer interests him.
This weekend, commits David Adams, Kurt Hinish and Drew White will be on campus and could possibly get involved in the official visits.
That does it for visits as of now but stay tuned. Staff is working very hard and more visits are sure to be scheduled. This post will be updated as new visits are scheduled.
**********UPDATE**********
Russ Yeast- WR/CB
Russ Yeast is currently committed to the Louisville Cardinals, but Notre Dame and Mike Elko finally offered the in-state athlete after re-evaluating him during this transition time. Hard to imagine how any 4 star talent in Notre Dame’s home state has to wait until a a few weeks until signing day to get offered- but the new coordinator’s are quickly rectifying that situation.
