Notre Dame Football: The Irish lose another commitment in Elijah Hicks

Four-star cornerback Elijah Hicks backs out from Notre Dame

NCAA Football: Duke at Notre Dame Matt Cashore-USA TODAY Sports

Just a day after four-star ATH Paulson Adebo de-committed from the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, the Irish 2017 class received another blow as four-star cornerback Elijah Hicks will no longer be a part of the class. Tyler James of the South Bend Tribune was the first one to report the story. James reported that Notre Dame were actually the ones to part ways, as they felt Hicks was not fully committed to the Irish.

A native of La Randa, CA, Hicks committed to the Irish in mid-October. Even after his pledge to the Irish, Hicks still took visits to Michigan and Cal. Greg Biggins, a recruting analyst for Fox Sports, has reported that Hicks is now expected to sign with Cal on signing day.

This all comes a day after every Notre Dame commit tweeted, “trust the process,” to show solidarity after the Adebo de-commitment. Hicks was one of the few who decided not to participate.

Notre Dame’s class is now with just one defensive back commit in Isaiah Robertson. The Irish’s class is also down to just 15 commits too. There are just a handful of weeks left until signing day, so Notre Dame will need to identify their targets and they will need to do it quickly.

Head coach Brian Kelly has his staff mostly in place. They will now be put to the test as they will need to round out this class in just a short amount a time.

Make sure to keep up with us here at OFD as we creep closer to signing day.
