It’s unfortunate that we are just five days away from kickoff, and we have to talk about situations like this- but here we are. On Monday evening the members of the Fulton County Five (Max Redfield, Te’Von Coney, Dexter Williams, Ashton White and Kevin Stepherson) were officially charged by the Fulton County prosecutors.

All five were charged with possession of marijuana, which is a class B misdemeanor. Redfield, on the other hand, received an additional charge of possession of handgun without a license, which is a class A misdeameanor.

Redfield, Stepherson and Coney all appeared in court on Tuesday morning for their initial hearings and the three all pleaded, “not guilty.”

White and Williams had their attorneys waive the initial trial and will settle the matter at the pretrial conference.

Coney’s pretrial hearing is set for October 12th and Stepherson and Redfield are both due back in court on October 19th. White and Williams have yet to have their pretrial date set.

As everyone knows Redfield has been kicked off the team, and the other four have been “handled internally” by head coach Brian Kelly.

Kelly has already said that if it were up to him, Stepherson, Coney, Williams and White would be available to play against Texas on Sunday night. The school has yet to make a ruling on the other four players, but I just have a hard time believing those players will be making the trip to Austin. That’s just my belief and I could be completely wrong. We shall see Sunday night.
