The Week in Notre Dame Athletics: Tournaments Ahead

The Fighting Irish earned wins this past week in men’s lacrosse, softball, baseball, track & field.

Without further ado, we give you the results of the last week's Irish match-ups and look ahead at what's on the schedule this week.

No. 6 men's lacrosse (10-3, 3-2) earned a strong 13-7 win over Army at home on Sunday. Senior captain Matt Kavanaugh had 2 goals and 4 assists; freshman Ryder Garnsey had 4 goals. Check out our full game recap here.

The third-seeded Irish begin NCAA tournament play against Air Force at home on Saturday (7:30 p.m. ET).

No. 19/21 softball (39-10, 13-7) went 2-1 again this past weekend, claiming their home series with North Carolina State. They won the opener, 15-14, lost the second game in Saturday's doubleheader, 6-5, then won the rubber match on Senior Day on Sunday, 4-0.

This week, ND travels to Raleigh, NC, for the ACC tournament. They face Virginia Tech in the quarterfinals on Thursday (7:30 p.m. ET, RSN). Should they advance, the semi-finals will be played on Friday (TBA) and the finals, on Saturday (TBA).

Baseball (26-20, 10-12) went 1-2 this past week, dropping their home series with Pittsburgh. The Irish lost their opening two games on Friday and Saturday, 4-2 and 8-5, but won the closer on Sunday, 5-0.

The Irish host a series with LSU this week: the teams play Tuesday evening (6:05 p.m. ET) and Wednesday evening (6:05 p.m. ET, ESPN3). This weekend, Notre Dame travels to Chapel Hill, NC, to play North Carolina. They'll face off Friday (7:00 p.m. ET, ESPN3), Saturday (6:00 p.m. ET, ESPN3), and Monday (7:00 p.m. ET, ESPNU).

Some members of the men's track & field team competed at the Billy Hayes Invitational over the weekend in Bloomington, IN. They finished with a handful of top-10 finishes and a strong showing in the field events, including taking 6th in the men's hammer throw, 3rd in discus, and 1st in javelin.

The Irish next compete in the ACC Outdoor Championships in Tallahassee, FL, this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Women's golf finished 13th (tied with no. 17 Iowa State) in a field of 18 at the NCAA Birmingham Regional last week (they finished at +80/944, 309-314-321). Freshman Emma Albrecht came in 24th overall at 14-over par on 3 rounds (76-75-79). So ends a great year for the Irish.

No. 6 women's lacrosse (13-6, 5-4) was idle this past week. They now await the first round of the NCAA tournament, which begins for them with the winner of Louisville-Northwestern at home on Sunday (2:00 p.m. ET). They're hosting their NCAA regional but have a first-round bye.

The no. 17 Irish rowing was idle this past week as they await the ACC Championships this Friday and Saturday in Clemson, SC.

Women's tennis has been idle, but participates in the first round of the NCAA tournament with a match against UCLA in Columbus, OH, on Friday. If they advance, they'll play their second round games on Saturday.

The men's team also begins NCAA tournament play against Stanford in Evanston, IL, on Saturday. One other note: the men's tennis head coaching position has been endowed through a three million dollar donation from the Callaghan family.
