The smartest guy in the room failed to deliver a win tonight.
Look... We (my brother and I) weren’t expecting 450 yards of offense tonight. We weren’t expecting 50 points either. In fact, we knew playing in a relentless rain would probably result in a lot of turnovers and sloppy play. That’s just the way it is in the rain.
What we did expect, however, was a head coach of 27 years having a modicum of common sense. In other words, the experience to boil this game down to its simplest form. Namely, block and run forward. Clearly that was too much to ask of the smartest guy in the room.
Notre Dame is in a tailspin this year as a direct result of poor decision making from Brian Kelly. That is hard to say because we like Brian Kelly. We want nothing more than for Brian Kelly to be successful at Notre Dame and to win a title.
Unfortunately this coach is so stubborn that he couldn’t bench Golson a few years ago. He couldn’t release Brian Vangorder last offseason. And tonight he couldn’t abandon an offense built solely upon launching 60 yard passes to Equanimeous St. Brown and Kevin Stepherson.
Its a shame really, but the writing is on the wall. It’s time to rip the Band-Aid off.
Per usual, this production is soaked with profanity and ankle deep in liquid courage and waves of criticism. We’re fans... that’s what we do.
