Irish Strike First With Some Great Play Calling

Going up-tempo and opening up the playbook a little bit, the Irish capped a TD drive with a shovel-pass touchdown.

The Irish opened the day against the Hurricanes with a nine-play, 73-yard touchdown drive. That’s a pretty good start for the boys in blue and gold. The drive heavily featured newlywed Torii Hunter Jr., who had three receptions for 36 yards. Here’s the scoring play:

It’s good to have football back after the bye week, and it’s good that we’ve got a strong start. However, as Notre Dame fans and followers, we all actually know better than to believe what we see on the first Notre Dame offensive drive.

The Irish went up-tempo on their first drive, Josh Adams had a big running play on the ground, and the play calling was actually pretty good. Whatever adjustments Brian Kelly and his staff and players made with two weeks off seem to be effective so far.

The Irish defense came out strong on the first Miami drive, forcing a three-and-out. Now, we’ll see if the Irish offense can keep it up.
