This was supposed to be a quick little project that I'd FanShot from an OFD tweet for people to look at before each game but then I took it a little further. I figured we'll probably have at least a little bit to talk about each week with the roster and the deal breaker to switch to a full post was giving you the reader something better to look at than a measly chart in a tweet.
So here we are with the projected depth chart for tomorrow's game against Virginia.
The freshmen still on pace to redshirt are: QB Brandon Wimbush, WR Jalen Guyton, WR Miles Boykin, C Tristen Hoge, OG Trevor Ruhland, DT Brandon Tiassum, DT Micah Dew-Treadway, DT Elijah Taylor, LB Josh Barajas, LB Asmar Bilal, CB Shaun Crawford, CB Ashton White, S Mykelti Williams
According to reports before the Texas game, the plan is to redshirt RB Justin Brent, hence why former walk-on Josh Anderson picked up a couple garbage time snaps last Saturday instead of Brent.
Notre Dame used a small pool of defensive linemen last week out of Texas' small amount of offensive snaps. The Irish basically stuck to Day, Rochell, Cage, Tillery, Trumbetti, Okwara, and Bonner with Randolph and Mokwuah getting in during garbage time.
This has led to some talk that Hayes or Blankenship could redshirt this year but Kelly put that to rest this week during a presser. For now, Hayes remains the backup at 3-tech until proven otherwise.
We haven't seen a practice report in a while but there's always been a lot of movement on the third team offensive line with Ruhland and Byrne switching spots, McGovern moving out to tackle (or up to 2nd team RG), and walk-on Sam Bush filling in any corresponding holes as the 15th guy.
Farley did not play as the 1st-team nickel corner against Texas. Pending the situation against Virginia we'll move him to 2nd string next week if necessary.
We'll also publish this depth chart each week based on recruiting hype.
