We're off to the races. Only 2 people forgot to get their picks in which isn't bad. My favorite part from last week was the 4 people who picked the straight up defeat of Army by Fordham. Doesn't matter if it was luck or genius.
Fittingly, the commentator "Zaire's Confidence" took the Week 1 lead with a 18-4 record. Now's not the time to get fat and happy, though. 3 people are within a game of the lead. Ya boy is not one of them.
Big E: 12-10 (12-10 Overall)
Now on to this week's games...
Utah State (+13.5) at No. 24 Utah
Rivalry game, obviously. I don't trust Utah's quarterback situation to win by 2 touchdowns.
USF (+28) at No. 11 FSU
How does #FSUTwitter feel about the fact that the Seminoles are 30-1 over their last 31 games and 'only' ranked 11th in the country? Super reasonable about it I'm sure. Has a program fallen off in recent years quite like USF? The Golson bandwagon adds a few more members this week.
Army (+7.5) at UConn
Classic overreaction to Army's embarrassing loss last week. No way can they stay with a FBS program right now. They probably will...
App State (+17) at No. 12 Clemson
Is this more about giving the Mountaineers respect or the opposite for Clemson? Does this line feel right to anyone?
Tulane (+28.5) at No. 15 Georgia Tech
Pick: Georgia Tech
We'll be spending next week talking about the gaudy Yellow Jacket stats on offense and how they're not supposed to mean much against their competition.
No. 9 Notre Dame (-12.5) at Virginia
Pick: Notre Dame
Going for the rare two covers in a row.
Hawaii (+40) at No. 1 Ohio State
A couple reasons for this pick. One, 40 points is a crap ton even for the Buckeyes. Two, Ohio State is coming off a short week. Three, Hawaii might be a little frisky with a back door cover. Four, the visitors are wearing these amazing throwback uniforms. Those are worth about 8 points by themselves.
No. 10 Georgia (-20.5) at Vanderbilt
I was skeptical about Georgia's offense last week and I'm still feeling that way. They'll have to throw more than 12 passes at some point. Might not be this week though.
Fresno State (+28.5) at No. 17 Ole Miss
Pick: Ole Miss
I'm going favorite heavy so far and I don't like it. All indications are that Fresno's offense is really bad. Like really bad. The Rebels looked the opposite no matter who was at quarterback last week.
MTSU (+35) at No. 2 Alabama
Another huge spread and the Tide going against a freshman quarterback.
Toldeo (+21.5) at No. 18 Arkansas
The Rockets had their week 1 game cancelled so little scouting available to Arkansas. Let's take Toledo to cover.
No. 19 Oklahoma (PK) at No. 23 Tennessee
If the Vols have a breakthrough finally that game is right here. We can look forward to a much closer game than last year but if you're asking me to straight pick this I'm going with the more proven Sooners.
No. 21 Missouri (-10.5) at Arkansas State
Pick: Arkansas State
So Arkansas State loses by 49 points to USC and has to come back and play another ranked team yet the spread is this low? Vegas know something!
Nevada (+11.5) at No. 22 Arizona
The Wildcats are going to play passionately for 2-star Scooby!
Ball State (+29.0) at No. 16 Texas A&M
Pick: Ball State
At this point I'm just taking some underdogs to even things out.
No. 7 Oregon (+3.5) at No. 5 Michigan State
I watched quite a lot of the Michigan State game last week and I'm not sure their offense is going to be able to keep up with Oregon. Sure, the NFL will go ga-ga over Connor Cook and his good looks in combination with this pro-styleness. Vernon Adams is a better college quarterback. Perhaps a closer game than last year but any time I get the chance to pick the Ducks and the point it's difficult to turn that down.
Idaho (+43) at No. 8 USC
A quiet bad loss last week was the Vandals dropping their game to Ohio by 17 points. I'm picking Idaho to cover based solely on the Sark story we're supposed to hear about today. Distraction in L.A.
No. 14 LSU (-4.5) at No. 25 Miss State
Pick: Miss State
I'm not taking LSU as a road favorite against a ranked team until I see what their quarterback situation looks like. Remember, the Tigers had their game cancelled last week.
No. 20 Boise State (-2.5) at BYU
Poor Boise, they need this game for schedule strength purposes and then BYU goes and loses their quarterback again. I like the Cougars to play tough at home.
No. 13 UCLA (-29) at UNLV
Several Bruins get arrested inside the Mirage! We can dream.
