The ACC Tournament Champion Notre Dame Fighting Irish (not gonna get tired typing that) got a three seed in the Midwest Region of the NCAA Tournament. Although the Irish squad had a very good argument to move up to the two line, they ultimately were slotted in the three line. ND will face Northeastern, who won the Colonial Athletic Conference, in the first round. Should the Irish advance, the team will face the winner of the Butler-Texas game which could result in an interesting in-state showdown with the Bulldogs. The other potential opponent Texas started the season very highly ranked, but was considered a bubble team late in the season. Many thought they'd be left out of the field after their late loss to Iowa State in the Big 12 Tournament. It should also be noted that Rick Barnes didn't make the Sweet Sixteen with Kevin Durant on his roster. Looking at the rest of the region, seeing Kentucky obviously stands out, but the Irish wouldn't face the Cats until the Elite Eight. Kansas is the two seed that the Irish would face if the seeds hold true. The Jayhawks have struggled a bit down the stretch, and have some injury concerns. I'm kind of surprised ND ended up in Pittsburgh, although it's not too much further than Columbus, and will probably have similar numbers of Irish fans. We'll have a breakdown of ND's path to the Final Four later in the week, but feel free to discuss the bracket here.
Update:
The Irish play at 12:15 ET on Thursday. Take a long lunch break everyone.
