We've got updates to the roster. The Irish have been able to stay relatively healthy (no jinx) over the past couple games but there's a little bit of shuffling going on for this weekend.
Game Notes
Tight end Tyler Luatua will be back in the lineup after taking the last 2 games off with a concussion. He takes a starting spot along with Weishar and Jones who are all playing a lot in 2015.
Left guard Quenton Nelson is a game-time decision with an ankle sprain. He practiced later this week but it wouldn't be a surprise if Alex Bars gets the start. Bars logged 27 snaps last week after Nelson was injured.
Brian Kelly mentioned that C.J. Sanders will get first crack at kick return with Carlisle now moved to the backup position. He also mentioned freshman running back Dexter Williams got some reps behind Carlisle.
Notre Dame continues to use a crazy small pool of players on defense. Only 13 players logged snaps against Clemson last week. Players like Martini, Morgan, Coleman, Watkins, Butler, and Bonner never touched the field.
As we mentioned last week the primetime players who eat nearly every snap on the defensive line remain as follows: Day, Rochell, Okwara, Cage, Tillery with Trumbetti sprinkled in once in a while. In the big picture, no one is really making an impact.
Kelly said that Elijah Shumate will drop down into the Drue Tranquill role near the line of scrimmage to defend the option against Navy on Saturday.
