The Houston Texans Draft Notre Dame Nose Guard Louis Nix 83rd Overall

Irish Chocolate has found a new home.

Joe Robbins

One of the most entertaining and engaging personalities in recent Notre Dame history has found a new home in the NFL. After a 3-year career in South Bend the affable Louis Nix had his named called in the NFL Draft.

The massive nose guard from Jacksonville was part of the transition 2010 recruiting class and famously stuck with his commitment after the firing of Charlie Weis. Although he sat out as a freshman re-working his body and getting acclimated to life on campus Nix came through with a sneaky productive 2011 campaign before exploding onto the scene in 2012 as one of the country's best interior linemen.

His academic senior season was cut short due to a knee injury but Nix leaves Notre Dame as one of the school's all-time great run defenders and one of the most likable personalities to ever put on a gold helmet. He fell pretty far in this draft but he'll no doubt be a complete steal for the Houston Texans in the 3rd round.

Congratulations to Louis and his family! You can read more about the pick of Nix at SB Nation's Houston Texans blog Battle Red Blog.
