Coach Brian Kelly received his 6th verbal commitment for the 2015 class today from S Nicco Fertitta (Las Vegas, NV - Bishop Gorman). He is listed at 5'9"/160 lbs.
Fertitta committed during his weekend visit to campus, his first since landing an offer in January. He chose Notre Dame over offers from Boston College, Arizona and Hawaii. He continues to draw interest from several Big XII programs and will play in the US Army All-American Bowl in January.

Immediate Future:
The recruiting sites vary pretty widely on Fertitta's measurements-from 5'9" to 5'11" and 160 to 200 lbs. Regardless, there is still fair depth in front of him at safety when he arrives on campus next fall. I expect that he will take a redshirt season to add weight and learn DC Brian VanGorder's more complex defense.
Long Term/Career:
Fertitta has already had the opportunity to play against some of the nation's best players, as Bishop Gorman plays a brutal schedule which includes teams from California, Florida and Arizona. He is a big hitter for a player listed at his size and shows an excellent ability to diagnose plays. Based on his highlights, I think his best fit long term is as a nickel corner and special teams stalwart. He has the potential to develop into a quality depth guy who will push for playing time as an upperclassman.
Welcome to Notre Dame Nicco!
