Coach Brian Kelly received his 7th verbal commitment for the 2015 class today from OG Trevor Ruhland (Cary, IL -Cary Grove). He is listed at 6'4"/270 lbs.
Ruhland visited Notre Dame earlier this month, when he picked up an offer from the staff. Most experts thought it was only a matter of time until he committed once the offer was in hand. He chose the Irish over several national offers including California, Syracuse, Duke and Nebraska.
What a day, It was a tough one but I made the best decision of my life. Im going to be joining the Notre Dame family! Go Irish

Immediate Future:
Given the incredible depth and talent along the trenches for the Irish offense, it is safe to say that Ruhland will get a redshirt in 2015. He can take that year to bulk up, hit the weights and work on learning/refining technique.
Long Term/Career:
It isn't that often that offensive line commits have entertaining highlights to watch, but Ruhland definitely fits in that category. On several occasions, he is 10+ yards downfield with a defender on roller skates. In other situations, he puts a defender on his back and then gets up and looks for someone else to hit. Nearly every scout had a similar take on Ruhland-they all use the term "nasty" to describe his play. He likely moves inside to guard in college, but he could get a look at right tackle if needed.
He certainly has the bloodlines to develop into a top college player-his father was an All-Big Ten defensive lineman at Iowa. Coach Harry Hiestand is getting another great fit for his offensive line and likely closes the position for the 2015 cycle.
Welcome to Notre Dame Trevor!
