It'll be the Bayou Bengals in Nashville on December 30th.

Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

Notre Dame's bowl selection became known early Sunday evening and the Irish will match up with the LSU Tigers in the Music City Bowl.

Date and time: Tuesday, Dec. 30th, 3:00 P.M. ET

TV channel: ESPN

Location: Nashville, Tennessee

Stadium: LP Field; 69,143

Series: Tied 5-5-0

Notre Dame (7-5) will face LSU (8-4) for the 11th time in history and the first time since the Sugar Bowl to conclude the 2006 season. This will be the third meeting in the post-season (the teams also faced each other in the '97 Independence Bowl after playing each other earlier that season) and with the Tigers at No. 22 in the AP Poll keeps the streak alive of at least one team being ranked during this matchup.

LSU opened up their season facing Wisconsin at NRG Stadium in Houston. After trailing 24-7 in the middle of the 3rd quarter the Tigers shutout the Badgers the rest of the way and won the game 28-24.

They next shutout both Sam Houston State and Louisiana-Monroe by a combined scored of 97-0 before falling behind 34-10 at home to Mississippi State and having a comeback fall short in a 34-29 loss. LSU decisively beat New Mexico State 63-7 before finishing up league play in the SEC.

The Tigers fell to 0-2 in SEC play with a 41-7 blowout loss at Auburn but rebounded nicely with a 3-game win streak which included a victory in the Swamp over Florida, a thorough defeat of Kentucky, while handing Ole Miss their first loss of the season.

LSU gave Alabama a tough game but lost by a touchdown and followed that up by being shutout at Arkansas. They finished the regular season beating Texas A&M in College Station by the score of 23-17.

23 days until kickoff. Classes end this Thursday for Notre Dame students, exams run through the following Friday, December 19th, which leaves 11 days until the end of the semester and the football game.
