College Football Viewer's Guide: Week 2

Round 2.

The Big House
The Big House
Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

It's Michigan Week!

Notre Dame and Michigan don't kick off until 8:00 EST on Saturday night so we are all going to be looking to occupy ourselves during the day. Yard work? Errands? Something productive? Naaaaah, there is college football that is going to need watching! The overall Saturday lineup is pretty weak but there are a few interesting games that we can watch while we are waiting for Notre Dame and Michigan to tee it up at the Big House. If nothing else grabs your attention in this lineup there are opportunities to watch several teams that Notre Dame will face later in the season.

Don't forget that we will also be hosting another open thread here at One Foot Down for the Notre Dame vs. Michigan game so if you have your laptop, tablet or smartphone handy stop by and join the conversation. That thread will open up an hour prior to the broadcast at 7:00 EST. For those that are interested we will also have a thread open for the day games. See you there.

Rankings are per the USA Today Coaches Poll

Thursday 5 September

FAU at East Carolina 7:30 FOX Sports 1

tWWL isn't airing a game this Thursday night so this sad excuse for a game is all we have to work with. I suppose they just conceded the night to the NFL opener. Oh well. On the upside I won't be dragging too bad when I get up to go to the office on Friday morning.

Sacramento State at Arizona State 10:00 PAC-12 Network

If you get the PAC-12 Network here is a chance to get eyes on upcoming ND opponent Arizona State. Note to self, set the DVR. Wait, do I even get the PAC-12 Network?

Friday 6 September

Wake Forest at Boston College 8:00 ESPN2

This matchup isn't exactly interesting but it is another opportunity to get eyes on Steve Addazio's Eagles. They didn't exactly set the world on fire in a 24-14 win over Villanova this past weekend.

Saturday 7 September

#12 Florida at Miami (FL) 12:00 ESPN

Now this is more like it. Will Muschamp is taking his Gators down the road to mix it up against The U. It isn't quite the marquee matchup that it once was but it still has the potential to be entertaining. Perhaps this matchup will help Miami actually sell some tickets...

USF at Michigan State 12:00 ESPN2/ Watch ESPN

Sparty is headed to South Bend in a couple of weeks so this is another chance to see their completely inept offense in action. Manball. The defective version.

#2 Oregon at Virginia 3:30 ABC/ESPN 2

The Cavs picked up a close win against BYU in week 1 while the Ducks beat up on Nicholls State 66-3. I expect Oregon to run away with this game but the Cavs have a real opportunity here to prove that they are trending in the right direction under Mike London.

San Diego State at #3 Ohio State 3:30 ABC/ESPN 2

Last weekend tOSU was sloppy in a win against Buffalo and SDSU got spanked by Eastern Illinois. tWWL is hell bent on televising Ohio State games aren't they?

Utah State at Air Force 3:30 CBS Sports

This game will be on TV#1 in this time slot. At least until 4:30...

#6 South Carolina at #11 Georgia 4:30 ESPN

Esseessee y'all. South Carolina is coming off of a fairly benign win over North Carolina last Thursday. Georgia is coming off of an emotional, and physical loss to Clemson late Saturday night. This is a huge September game in the SEC East race. I think the extra couple of days to prepare give the Cocks a slight edge in this one.

West Virginia at #16 Oklahoma 7:00 FOX

More scouting of future ND opponents. Is Stoops really going to stick with Trevor Knight at quarterback? His stat line last weekend was pretty unimpressive. 11 for 28 for 86 yards, 3 TDs and 1 INT. He completed less than 50% of his passes and didn't even break 100 yards! Granted they ran for 300+ yards in a 34-0 win over Louisiana Monroe but that's still an ugly stat line.

#15 Texas at BYU 7:00 ESPN2

And even more scouting. What is everybody thinking about Texas? They had an ugly first half followed by a second half offensive explosion against New Mexico State last weekend. I'll be curious to see what they look like against BYU.

#14 Notre Dame at #17 Michigan 8:00 ESPN

Notre Dame at Michigan. The Big House. Prime time. Game Day on the scene in Ann Arbor. It doesn't get any bigger than this. I'll leave the full blown preview talk to the rest of the staff. I can't wait. As a side note, any of you that manage to weave any of the unofficial OFD Lexicon into a sign that appears on Game Day will become instant OFD legends. So if you pull it off be sure to let us know. We will be keeping a close eye on the Twitterz all day so you can always give us a heads up there.

Washington State at #25 USC 10:30 FOX Sports 1

Leach and the Cougs came up just short on the road at Auburn last weekend but they looked to be significantly better than they were last year. The question is are they good enough to give USC a decent game at the Coliseum? With Kiffin still trying to figure out who his quarterback is craziness just might ensue.

San Jose State at #5 Stanford 11:00 PAC-12 Network

This is the first chance that we have to get a look at Kevin Hogan and the Trees who will be playing their first game of the season against the 1-0 Spartans.

That's it for the week people. What other games should we be trying to keep an eye on?

We'll see you in our open threads on Saturday. Go Irish!
