The Big E College Football Picks: Week 4

Seems like yesterday we were pining for football now the season is going to be a quarter done with after this week.

This is the worst week of picks ever.

LEAGUE STANDINGS

Broke Rotary Cups went 8-14 last week and falls out of first place. Let's give a warm welcome to TJV who went 14-8 in week three and now has a 1 game over panhandleleprechaun.

I did my thing and went 13-9, so watch out as I've ascended to a tie for 4th place.

And now the picks for week four:

Boise State (+3.5) at Fresno State

Pick: Boise State

This is a super tough game to pick. Fresno has a great offense and should be well rested coming off a bye. What's giving me some pause is Boise's experience in these big games and the fact that Fresno has given up 76 points to their first two opponents. I'll take the points with Peterson on the sidelines.

North Carolina (+6) at Georgia Tech

Pick: North Carolina

The Yellow Jackets are off to a hot start (out scoring opponents 108-14) and people are slowly starting to jump on their Rambling Wreck bandwagon. UNC lost to South Carolina to open the season and has kind of faded away since then. I'll take the Tar Heels coming off a bye and getting ready for that triple option.

Louisiana Tech (+10.5) at Kansas

Pick: Louisiana Tech

Skip Holtz does not have a depleted La Tech squad headed in the right direction after a blowout loss to NC State, a blah win over Lamar and a loss to Tulane. Still, I'll challenge Weis to cover the spread here.

San Jose State (+3.5) at Minnesota

Pick: San Jose State

I'd take the Spartans straight up, too.

Wake Forest (-3) at Army

Pick: Wake Forest

A second straight major conference team visits West Point? Wow, a strong hand shake to the guy who puts together Army's scheduling. Yeah, Wake has played terribly this season but I think they can cover against a team that was just beat up by Stanford.

Pittsburgh (-4) at Duke

Pick: Pittsburgh

I think Duke is going to fall back to historical levels this season and this is a game Pitt just has to win to keep bowl hopes alive.

Ball State (-10.5) at Eastern Michigan

Pick: Ball State

EMU had a decent showing against Rutgers and Ball State is coming off a loss to North Texas. This still feels like a spread that is just a wee bit too small.

West Virginia (+5.5) at Maryland

Pick: West Virginia

Some scheming here as most are probably ready to jump on an improved Maryland team and ditch West Virginia. Something tells me this game is very, very close.

Arkansas (+1) at Rutgers

Pick: Arkansas

I'm not sure Rutgers is the same program it was a couple years ago. My fake money is on the SEC team winning this one.

Purdue (+24) at Wisconsin

Pick: Wisconsin

Afterward, we'll lament how we could only beat Purdue by a touchdown while this game was over at halftime.

Utah State (+6.5) at USC

Pick: USC

I bought into the Trojans last week on a spread I thought was pretty ridiculous and I'll do the same here again.

Tennessee (+16.5) at Florida

Pick: Florida

Everyone in the world thinks this spread is too which obviously means Jeff Driskel is going to have the best game of his career and the Gators will win a blowout. For real though, it has to be super tough for Tennessee to come back from Oregon and then play competitively in the Swamp.

Michigan State (+5.5) at Notre Dame

Pick: Michigan State

Another week of a shrinking spread...

Cincinnati (-23) at Miami [OH]

Pick: Cincinnati

Miami is going to be all sorts of bad this year.

Arizona State (+6) at Stanford

Pick: Stanford

Even though I'm not sold on Stanford's offense I think as a team they've been playing solid and and they're going to get a tired Arizona State team. I wouldn't be surprised to see a solid 15 point win for the Cardinal.

Auburn (+17) at LSU

Pick: LSU

Auburn isn't quite back to respectability.

Kansas State (+5.5) at Texas

Pick: Kansas State

Everyone is about to quit at Texas. I'm not picking them for the rest of the season.

Wyoming (-4.5) at Air Force

Pick: Wyoming

I don't think Air Force is a good football team, and they are especially terrible on defense. On the other side, Wyoming is one of the sneaky good non-major teams in the country with a quality offense.

Utah (+6.5) at BYU

Pick: Utah

I watched a little bit of Utah late last Saturday and came away impressed enough to take the points.

New Mexico State (+42.5) at UCLA

Pick: UCLA

I'll take the Bruins here but I'm not happy about it. This is soooooo many points.

Idaho (+31) at Washington State

Pick: Idaho

Idaho showed a pulse last week against Northern Illinois. I'm taking a chance with the Vandals to wrap up the week with another enormous spread.
