Coach Brian Kelly received his 16th verbal commitment for the 2014 class yesterday (Aug 2nd) from Richard Yeargin III (Fort Lauderdale, FL - University School). He is listed at 6'4"/225 lbs and 4.98 40 yard time.

Yeargin visited the Irish most recently in June. He announced a top five at the beginning of the week of ND, USC, Michigan, Florida and Clemson. He reported over 40 offers in total including programs such as UCLA, Florida State and Stanford in addition to his top 5.

Impact:

Immediate Future:

With limited depth at inside linebacker in 2014, Yeargin may get his first chance to play Mike or Will for the Irish. As shown by his offer list, several programs were very interested due to his athleticism and versatility. I expect he will see some playing time early, if only on special teams and in mop-up duty.

Long Term/Career:

Most experts reported that Notre Dame was recruiting him primarily as a Cat LB, and that looks to be a natural position for Yeargin. His highlights show him doing an excellent job of setting the edge and keeping the ball carrier inside where either he or a teammate could clean up. He also plays well in space and looks to play a lot faster than his listed 4.98 40 yard time. He is sure tackler, which is a necessity for an outside linebacker. Whether he plays inside or outside, he is an excellent prospect for Brian Kelly and his staff and should make an impact over his career.

Welcome to Notre Dame Richard!
