Coach Brian Kelly received his 12th verbal commitment for the 2014 class yesterday from P Tyler Newsome (Carrollton, GA - Carrollton). He is listed at 6'3"/190 lbs.
Newsome camped at Notre Dame this week and picked up an offer from the staff on Thursday. He didn't take long to decide, as he verbally committed within 24 hours.

Impact:
Immediate Future:
Just last week, I wrote that the staff needed to take a kicker this cycle-and they found one. Newsome will come in with current kicker Kyle Brindza having only one year of eligibility remaining and the loss of 5th year senior Wake Forest transfer P Alex Wulfeck. Early on, he will compete for punting and kick-off duties per reports.
Long Term/Career:
From his highlight clips (yes, kickers have those as well), Newsome appears to have a plenty of leg for kick-off and place kicking duties. He frequently kicked the ball through the end zone at the prep level (note: kick-offs come from the 40 yard line in high school). Given that the Irish are bringing in two preferred walk-on kickers this fall, there will be some competition for place kicking duties. Notre Dame has had great production from its kickers over the past few seasons, and appear to have another talented one joining the team in 2014.
Welcome to Notre Dame Tyler!
