Coach Brian Kelly received his 10th verbal commitment for the 2014 class today from OT Alex Bars (Nashville, TN - Montgomery Bell Academy). He is listed at 6'6" and 287 lbs. His father played LB at Notre Dame and has brothers that play at Penn State (DL) and Michigan (OL).

Bars most recently visited campus for Junior Day in March. He chose the Irish over Michigan and held over 20 offers including Florida, Georgia, LSU, Ohio State and Stanford.

Impact:

Immediate Future:

Like most other offensive line commits, Bars should take his freshman year to add/redistribute weight, spend plenty of time under the watchful eye of S&C Coach Paul Longo, and learn the offensive system. Under the development and tutelage of OL Coach Harry Hiestand, Bars should be ready to compete for playing time in 2015.

Long Term/Career:

Bars is yet another OL commit for CBK from the same mold-good size, good athlete, able to move and block in space and can get to the second level with ease. Like many prep athletes, he is better at run blocking than pass blocking at this point, but will quickly develop into a complete tackle in college. He probably projects to a RT at the next level, but that might also depend on who is playing QB.

There is really something to be said for what Kelly & Company are doing with recruiting the offensive line since Harry Hiestand joined the staff. Bars is yet another top OL prospect to verbally commit and should prove to be an excellent addition to the program in time.

Welcome to Notre Dame Alex!
