Coach Brian Kelly has received his 24th verbal commitment for the 2013 class today from DT Eddie Vanderdoes (Placer, CA - Placer). He is listed at 6'2" and 310 lbs.
Vanderdoes committed to the Irish after his official visit. He was a one-time USC verbal commitment and chose Notre Dame over the Trojans and held around 40 national offers including Alabama, UCLA and Washington among others.

Impact:
Immediate Future:
Vanderdoes will bring depth at the DL immediately, and looks to be the heir apparent "War Daddy" once Louis Nix goes to the NFL. In Bob Diaco's front, he could play any position but is best suited to play inside in three or four man fronts. I envision him seeing about the same number of snaps that Sheldon Day did in 2012 (~30%) and making an immediate impact up front.
Long Term/Career:
One doesn't have to get too far into Vanderdoes film (e.g. highlights) before coming to the conclusion that he was just physically dominant at the high school level. His highlight reel should remind Irish fans a lot of what they saw from Nix last fall-taking up space, destroying blockers and just wreaking havoc. It is surprising that he is listed at 310 lbs, and looks like he could add another 15 lbs without losing any of his explosiveness or athleticism. He should have an excellent career in South Bend.
Welcome to Notre Dame Eddie!
