Coach Brian Kelly reportedly has received his 20th verbal commitment for the 2013 class today from OLB Doug Randolph (Woodberry Forest, VA - Woodberry Forest). He is listed at 6'3" and 220 lbs with a 4.65 second 40 yard dash.

Randolph committed to Notre Dame after previously being a Stanford verbal commitment. He was high school team mates with current Irish freshman CJ Prosise and current team mate of 2014 verbal commitment Greer Martini. He also held offers from Virginia, Maryland and West Virginia among others.

Impact:

Immediate Future:

While he could play at either OLB position for the Irish, he seems to be more of a natural fit for the Cat LB spot. Given his current size and depth at the position on the Irish roster, I don't see Randolph breaking into the rotation as a freshman. He could see some time on special teams and during mop-up duty, but the staff may look to preserve a year of eligibility unless he is very impressive in fall camp.

Long Term/Career:

He uses his hands extremely well to shed blockers at the prep level-something that will translate (although be much more difficult) in college. His highlight film showed him mainly playing with his hand on the ground with a definite preference to attack the ball. Since he is only listed at 220 lbs currently, he will have to put on 20-25 lbs to get to his college playing weight. As a natural pass rusher, he should be an excellent fit for DC Bob Diaco's defense and should have a very productive career in South Bend.

Welcome to Notre Dame Doug!
