Impact:

Immediate Future:

Like the other offensive linemen in the 2013 class, Montelus will most likely sit out his first year on campus. This will give him time to add (or redistribute) some weight, add strength and learn the offense/zone blocking scheme from new OL Coach Harry Heistand.

Long-Term/Career:

Montelus shows a he does a lot of great things on film--stays with blocks, is able to move/block in space and can get to the second level of the defense in a hurry. Based on his size, he projects as an interior lineman at the college level. His film shows a nice ability to pull, which will be a big asset moving to one of the guard positions. One thing that he will have to work on is pad level--he looks a little high on film, but that may be due to his size relative to the opposing players at the prep level. His reported mean streak is something that should get all Irish fans excited about watching a few years down the road.

Welcome to Notre Dame John!
