So remember when I said that I expected ND's Elite 8 Matchup would be tough?
Turns out Skylar Diggins had other plans as she put up an astounding stat line of 22 points, 10 rebounds, 11 assists and 5 steals to lead Notre Dame to a dominant 80-49 win over Maryland.
More on the dominant Irish performance after the jump
The Irish stepped on the gas pedal from the opening tip and never took their foot off as they jumped out to a 20-13 lead 7 minutes into the game and did not look back. Coach Muffet McGraw did not deviate from her game plan and used the speed and skill of her backcourt to outrun and outgun the frontcourt heavy Terrapins.
Irish guards Kayla McBride and Skylar Diggins pressured the Maryland guards as ND forced 22 Maryland turnovers which they were able to convert into 31 points.
Forward Natalie Achonwa stepped in for Devereaux Peters who was in foul trouble most of the night. Achonwa, a sophomore from Canada, chipped in 18 points and 7 rebounds in 26 minutes off the bench.
With the win the Irish head to its third Final Four in program history and second in a row. These ladies are on a quest and I'm on board!
The Irish will face Connecticut this Sunday at 6:30pm for a chance to get back into the championship game where they will face the winner of Baylor/Stanford.
I leave you with this badass picture of Sky:
