Coach Brian Kelly received his 6th verbal commitment for the 2013 class today in OT Mike McGlinchey (Philadelphia, PA - William Penn Charter). McGlinchey gave his pledge following Junior Day and is listed at 6'9" and 275 lbs.
McGlinchey held close to 20 offers from schools such as Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Miami and basically the entire Big Ten. He was actually on his way to a visit at Wisconsin when he decided he wanted to commit to play for the Irish. With the commitment from McGlinchey, the staff likely will close the book on recruiting offensive linemen for 2013 unless one of them shifts to the defensive side of the ball.

Impact:
Immediate Future:
Like the rest of the offensive linemen in the 2013 class, McGlinchey will likely spend his freshman year focusing on adding weight and learning the system. Listed between 6'7" and 6'9" on various sites, his frame should support around 40-50 lbs of additional weight without any issue.
Long Term/Career:
There is limited film available for Mike right now (and when I say film, I mean YouTube clips). The one thing that I noticed is that he does a great job of staying low given his tall frame. His long arms should help to engage defenders from a distance and not allow them to get inside and shed blocks.
Ultimately, his career will depend on the same thing that it does for all offensive linemen-how hard he works. Given his size, you have to think that the staff may have just landed another Tate Nichols type OT. Since we figured out how to imbed Tweets, I thought I would add another here:
Mike McGlinchey was reportedly on his way to Madison, when he committed to Notre Dame. They turned around and went back to South Bend
