The Weekly Scoreboard: Down Goes West Virginia

Breaking down the week's top action.

Brian Spurlock-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

Not a bad week from everyone.

The Guy Gets Shirts! and discndav led the way in week 7 with 6-2 records.

Me? Still at the bottom but with a solid 5-3 record this week. I still have a long way to go to climb to the top.

We have a new overall leader and that is cranked_irish, so congrats on 1st place half way through the season.

Recap:

1) Louisville 45 at Pittsbugh 35

Winner: Louisville (-3.5)

86% picked correctly

Pitt actually led this game 21-14 but the Cardinals dominated the second half. Louisville contained Pitt's running game and Tino Sunseri, who played solid, was unable to take over.

The Cardinals are now 6-0 and likely only have Cincinnati and Rutgers standing in their way for an undefeated season. Pitt on the other hand is now 0-3 in Big East play.

2) Kansas State 27 at Iowa State 21

Winner: Iowa State (+6.5)

11% picked correctly

In a boring game that was hyped but a lot of the media, K-State was able to outlast the pesky Cyclones. Iowa State was held to just 231 yards and 65 on the ground.

Just one point more for Kansas State would have meant a really big week of betting guessing for a lot of people.

3) Texas 21 at Oklahoma 63

Winner: Oklahoma (-2.5)

61% picked correctly

Damn Texas. Just...damn.

36-2 at halftime. Texas gave up 677 yards to OU. Texas gave up 343 rushing yards.

Ugly times in Austin.

4) Alabama 42 at Missouri 10

Winner: Alabama (-21.5)

64% picked correctly

Another dominating performance by Alabama but Missouri was without quarterback James Franklin again. Missouri was held to only 129 total yards and 3 rushing yards.

5) West Virginia 14 at Texas Tech 49

Winner: Texas Tech (+3.5)

8% picked correctly

Well it happened, West Virginia's offense was merely good and their defense kept bleeding all over the place. It appears the honeymoon period for the Mountaineers is over.

Tech was -2 in turnovers but still racked up 676 yards in the 35 point win.

6) Oregon State 42 at BYU 24

Winner: Oregon State (+5.5)

72% picked correctly

It was a nice day offensively for Oregon State (450 yards) as they ran away with the game in the 4th quarter. Riley Nelson was back at QB for BYU but threw 3 picks in the loss---giving him 6 in his last two games.

The Cougars come to South Bend this weekend.

7) Stanford 13 at Notre Dame 20

Winner: Stanford (+7.5)

17% picked correctly

I was one of 6 people to get this game right. The Irish face another sizable spread this weekend, what are you going to do?

8) South Carolina 21 at LSU 23

Winner: South Carolina (+2.5)

81% picked correctly

Phew, a lot of us just barely got the win here as South Carolina covered by the whiskers of their chin.

LSU should have won by more too, as they finished +195 in total yards and the Cocks benefitted from a really bad interception from Mettenburger.

Opponent Watch:

  • Navy 31 at Central Michigan 13

The Middies got back to .500 on the season with a solid win over the Chippewas.

  • Wisconsin 38 at Purdue 14

The Boilers scored the first and last touchdowns of the game, but were dominated in between. So much for Purdue being the darkhorse of the Big Ten as they slip to 3-3, 0-2 in conference play, with back-to-back blowout losses in league play.

  • Iowa 19 at Michigan State 16

In a field goal-fest the Spartans blew a 10-point lead and suffered their 3rd loss of the season. It's looking like that win in East Lansing won't be considered too big this season.

  • Illinois 0 at Michigan 45

The Wolverines destroyed Illinois and held them to just 134 total yards. Michigan is now 2-0 in conference play and has bounced back nicely since losing in South Bend.

  • North Carolina 18 at Miami 14

Former Irish recruit target Gio Bernard continues to run like a wild man as UNC handed Miami it's first ACC loss of the season.

  • Boston College 7 at Florida State 51

The Eagles get embarrassed again and are now 1-5 and 0-3 in ACC play.

  • Wake Forest had a bye and will travel to Virginia this week.
  • USC 24 at Washington 14

Matt Barkley only completed 10 passes but 213 rushing yards from Silas Redd and Curtis McNeal sealed the win for the Trojans who move to 5-1 and 3-1 in Pac-12 play.
