Turner Verbals to Notre Dame, and Other News &Notes

While we wait for the move, we have some more news to pass along your way.

Sunday, safety prospect John Turner from Cathedral H.S. in Indianapolis committed to Notre Dame.

Turner is a 3-star prospect across the board and is the lowest rated recruit so far in this 2012 class for the Irish according to ESPN with a 76 grade.

While not an acclaimed player, Turner has really good size (6'0" 200 lbs.) and his film shows excellent instincts, good playmaking ability, pretty good speed, and when he tackles the opponent...they stop moving.

He's the 11th member of the 2012 class, and 5th secondary recruit (6th if we're counting Badger when he returns next year) and a clear signal that Brian Kelly and his staff are targeting that part of the defensive depth chart with fervor.

Now, the coaches are inching closer to sitting back and waiting on some elite defensive line and linebackers as we head towards what could be a successful season.

Elsewhere...

*Grand Valley State renamed its indoor football complex the Kelly Family Sports Center after Brian Kelly.

Kelly was 118-35-2 at Grand Valley State from 1991 until 2003, winning two national titles and finishing worse than second in his conference only 3 out of 13 seasons.

He's had quite the meteoric rise in his profession since the early part of the last decade.

He's a popcorn playa to the first degree. Can't wait to see him carrying the ball in the fall.

*No Irish players were taken in the NBA draft.

That was to be expected though.

*In case you missed it blowing up Twitter last week, Notre Dame got in their new Adidas gloves for 2011.

They also come in three different colors:

Looking sharp, right?

*And finally some sad news to pass along...

Andre Jones, former Irish defender, member of the 1988 national championship team, and father of current receiver TJ Jones, passed away due to a brain aneurysm a few days ago.

Our heart felt sympathies go out to TJ and his family. It's never fun to see a member of the Notre Dame family leave us so early in his life.

RIP Andre Jones.

*We hope to make the jump to SBNation sometime very soon, so stay on your toes and be alert because it could be any day now!
