The University of Virginia has reportedly offered Notre Dame Head Coach Kevin Corrigan their Head Coaching job and per reports, Corrigan might decide today whether to take the esteemed position in Charlottesville.

On the surface, it seems a little far-fetched for Corrigan to leave South Bend. He just wrapped up his 28th-season as Head Coach and reached institutional status at the university long ago. His teams have reached the NCAA Tournament each of the past ten seasons and are a routine visitor to Championship Weekend. He is by far the winningest coach as he is the programs second head coach. You read that right. Corrigan is Notre Dame's second lacrosse coach.
He was also honored this past summer with the announcement of an Endowment for the lacrosse head coaching job that was clearly designed to keep Corrigan in South Bend for the rest of his career.
It is worth noting that while Virginia is a talent-rich team in a talent-rich recruiting area, Corrigan would be leaving a proven roster that will be returning 1st-Team All-American (and likely Tewaaraton Watch-Lister) Sergio Perkovic, 2nd-team LSM John Sexton and 3rd-team Goalie Shane Doss, as well as its two leading scorers from 2016 in Mikey Wynne and Ryder Garnsey. In Charlottesville? Corrigan would just be getting All-American Honorable Mention Middie Zed Williams.
There is also the issue of the Cavaliers program that has fallen into a rut.
Since winning the National Championship in 2011, the Wahoos have gone 46-31 with a pair of 7-8 campaigns and only getting past the NCAA first round once in three tries.
But the program is chock full of talent and a coach with a proven ability to build from the ground up could make something of it in Charlottesville and Corrigan might be that guy.
He has a link to the University of Virginia because he is an alum and former lacrosse player. His father is a former Virginia lacrosse coach and ACC Commissioner and has family that resides in the area.
With Corrigan at the helm, Virginia would be getting an one institution to replace another in Dom Starsia. They would be getting a Head Coach with a proven record to quickly improve programs and do the impossible when asked. It would be a shock to not see immediate improvement out of the Wahoos if Corrigan were the Head Coach.
With the news set to reportedly drop sometime today, we'll keep you posted on any updates.
