Most of the One Foot Down team is either at the game, or at their day / night jobs tonight. So, sorry for the lack of coverage that we have been giving.
ANYWAYS
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have come out as a completely different team tonight against the Stanford Cardinal. While we have all seen and heard about the troubles the Cardinal offense has had, the performance of the defense should not be dismissed.
Yes, Stanford is missing Christian McCaffery tonight, but even with McCafferry (who has never scored a road touchdown), the Cardinal seem out of step and in a bit of a funk.
David Shaw's whine face is in full effect and it's beautiful as the Cardinal have made mistake after mistake. Penalties and turnovers will haunt Stanford during their halftime chat.
The Irish defense looks a lot more like a Bob Diaco defense tonight by keeping things in front of them and forcing turnovers instead of a Brian VanGorder defense where everyone stands around looking at each other wondering what they should do as a ball carrier runs past them.
The crowd is jacked- which is probably due to so many cheapo tickets available. So, the PBR crowd replaces the wine and cheese crap- AND IT IS WONDERFUL.
If Notre Dame wants to win this though, the offense is going to have to do just a bit more. Penalties are once again a problem and the offensive line is shaky. If Notre Dame can start to control the line of scrimmage better on offense, and give both Kizer a little more time and widen up those running lanes just a little bit...this game will end up as a notch in the win column.
Notre Dame gets the ball to start the second half- CATS AND DOGS ARE LIVING TOGETHER! Let's get this done and bring home the Legends Trophy.
