Coach Brian Kelly received his 16th verbal commitment for the 2015 class today from CB Ashton White (Washington, DC - Bishop McNamara). He is listed at 5'11"/182 lbs.
White recently camped in South Bend and left with an offer. He was previously committed to Virginia Tech, but chose to reopen the recruiting process in March. He chose the Irish over offers from Ohio State, Virginia Tech, Virginia and Maryland among others.
Blessed & Excited to say I am 100% Committed to THE University of Notre Dame!! #GoIrish #ShamrockSoldiers15 @NDFootball

Impact:
Immediate Future:
White is listed as both an athlete and corner on 247, so I am not sure the staff has him pegged as a corner long-term. Regardless, he probably isn't needed from a depth perspective as a true freshman unless there are a few key injuries ahead of him. He could contribute on special teams if needed, but is more likely to take a redshirt season.
Long Term/Career:
White is a physical player as a corner at the prep level, which may mean he gets a look or two at safety during his collegiate career. He will need to put on some weight (~20 lbs) to handle the game at the next level, but won't shy away from contact regardless. Overall, he is an aggressive defender who should fit in to the new look Irish defense nicely.
Welcome to Notre Dame Ashton!
